IPR strategy and management awareness is very much needed and should be intensively promoted amongst MEs and SMEs in the EU, to enable more growth and innovative businesses.
Many still believe that only registered IPR exists to protect their IP; however, in this Digital Age many other IPR schemes are readily available and easy to use.
Professional assistance on IPR strategies and management should be made more accessible and affordable to MEs and SMEs in the EU, to promote innovation and trade within and outside the EU.
A more comprehensible and affordable one stop shop IPR registration system for the EU would be an enormous stimulus for international trade for the EU and also would help create the stronger and bigger businesses able to also compete internationally, which are currently too few in Europe.
In our experience basic awareness was present on the protection of IP, but not on IP & IPR strategies & management
Questions were formulated on when to take what (further) steps to protect their IP/IPR and how, which did not always demonstrate a sufficient sense of knowledge or urgency
High percentage % of companies businesses in consortia depend on performance, success and thus existence of external services, products and companies they have not control over
High dependency of corporates based outside of the EU, or powerful corporates within the EU
A lot of innovation with IP/IPR potential rely on the existence of established systems, businesses or services which are not part of their own consortium
Establishing partnerships and long-term relationships with institutional organizations are sought after but hard to establish
Uncertainty regarding data, data control and data sharing
